理化学研究所 雪氷宇宙科学研究室・室長，埼玉大学大学院連携教授. 公益社団法人日本天文学会副会長，理事，代議員，日本学術会議天文学研究連絡委員会幹事(現連携会員，物理学委員会天文学・宇宙物理学分科会幹事)，国際天文学連合(IAU) Women in Astronomy Executive Committee Member等，歴任．博士(理学)(東京大学)．専門は宇宙物理学と雪氷学．特に宇宙における元素合成，南極の氷床コアを用いた過去の太陽活動と気候変動との関係，超新星爆発の痕跡の研究を目指している．平成28年度「第4回 湯浅年子賞」金賞，「ナイスステップな研究者(科学技術への顕著な貢献2014)」，国際学術連合南極科学委員会国際会議ベスト・オーラル・プレゼンテーション賞，ビデオ『元素誕生の謎にせまる』のシナリオ著作および制作により文部科学大臣賞等受賞．国内外の理科教育への貢献により，国際天文学連合から "Yukomotizuki"と命名された小惑星がある．著書に『人類の住む宇宙 第2版』(共著，日本評論社)，『アイスコア』(共著，成山堂書店)など. 日本BPW連合会ダイバーシティ・エデュケーター資格保持.
