Abstract :
The local potentials for the interaction of alpha-particles with nuclei,
specifically with alpha,s and 16O, show moderate attraction
at large distances and strong repulsion at smaller distances.
Covalently bound cluster states can thus be formed with
molecular orbits in which the valence neutrons are shared between different
centers. The structure of rotational bands for the reflection symmetric Dimers
of (10-12)Be, for the reflection asymmetric shapes of (21-22)Ne,
and of the trimers (chain-states) of carbon are discussed. New evidence
for such structures will presented for the cases of 21Ne and 13C.
An extended Ikeda diagram is proposed.
