Abstract:
       Starting from the nucleon-nucleon interaction, the formation of
    correlations in hot and dense matter is considered within a quantum
    statistical approach. The cluster-mean field approximation is
    discussed, and the disappearance of bound states at high densities
    due to phase space occupation (Mott effect) is shown. Consequences
    for the composition, the equation of state and the formation of a
    quantum condensate (pairing) are discussed.
